George Washington
George Washington was born on February 11, 1732 in Westmoreland Country, Virginia. Besides being our first president, Washington was a general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution. Washington died on December 14, 1799 in Mount Vermon, Virginia.
George Washington was much more than the first president of the United States. He was a major reason that America defeated the British in the Revolutionary War. Washington is most known for crossing the Delaware River to win the Battle of Trenton. This victory not only re-boosted American morale, but it inspired other men to enlist and join the Continental army. George Washington was also a very strong leader. He always fought in the front line with his soldiers instead of hiding in the back. These qualities are some of the reasons why Americans wanted Washington to be our president.
The crossing of the Delaware is one of Washington's greatest accomplishments and slowly helped the Continental army defeat England. George Washington didn't listen to his soldiers and bravely crossed the river on Christmas Day. If he would not have attacked the Hessians that night, they would have destroyed his army when the river melted. This is only one example of how George Washington bravely led his army.
